What is a SIM card? SIM card, also known as a Subscriber Identity Module, is a small circuit board that allows your mobile device to communicate with your carrier. SIM cards contain a unique serial number (ICCID) and international mobile security identity number (IMSI) that tell your carrier your device is allowed to operate on its network. When you upgrade to a new device, you can transfer your old SIM card as long it is compatible with your new phone.
